About the Founder
Melanie grew up in England accumulating more than 30 years of horse experience. She started her journey at a local riding school in Lancashire learning hands-on horsemanship and husbandry and hacking the moors, while taking care of her horses at home. After moving to the USA, she continued her work with horses managing a Thoroughbred racehorse farm, where she managed the daily running and care of Thoroughbreds on lay-up farm, additionally worked as an
assistant trainer and exercise rider, and starting young horses. Melanie currently owns and runs a full-care boarding farm in Ocala, Florida.
Throughout her equestrian career, Melanie had the opportunity to work alongside and learn from many veterinarians across the country and internationally. Working closely with sport horse veterinarians, for prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of sport horse injuries.
Melanie saw a need for a new product in wound care and
summer sore prevention, thus creating the first prototype for Heal Shield - the Fly Go boot. Using her extensive experience, Melanie took into consideration the importance of the biomechanics of soft tissues of the horse's delicate leg, designing products to avoid pressure points, binding and constriction of those tissues, while still allowing natural movement.
Melanie continues to develop The Heal Shield brand, inventing new products with both the equestrian and the horse in mind.
